Step One: Download WordPress
To download WordPress, head to the WordPress.org homepage and click the big blue "Download WordPress" button.
Save the downloaded ZIP file to an easily accessible location on your computer, such as your desktop.
Step Two: Extract the WordPress Files
Once the download is complete, extract the ZIP file to the document root directory of your MAMP installation. In most cases, this will be /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/
.
Step Three: Configure MAMP
Open MAMP and click on the "Preferences" button. From there, click on the "Web Server" tab.
In the "Document Root" field, make sure it is set to the directory where you extracted the WordPress files. In our case, it would be /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/wordpress/
.
Step Four: Create a Database
Next, click on the "MySQL" tab in MAMP and click on the "Open WebStart page" button.
This will open up a page in your browser. Click on the "phpMyAdmin" link.
From here, click on the "Databases" tab and create a new database. You can name it whatever you like.
Step Five: Install WordPress
Now that everything is set up, it's time to install WordPress. In your preferred web browser, go to http://localhost/wordpress/
. You should see the WordPress installation page.
Select your preferred language and click "Continue." On the next page, enter the database information you created in Step Four.
Click "Submit" and follow the prompts to set up your WordPress site.
